    Rug Fibers

The natural cactus fiber rugs are made from the Yucca plant native to the mountains of Nepal. It is sustainably grown without irrigation. The women hand gather the plant fiber, sort it by color and hand cart it for weaving. No chemical process is used for the grey and brown seasonal color. The Yucca is one of the most strong and durable of the plant fibers.

Nettle plants are found in open forest and slopes in Nepal where its tough roots Blind the soil and prevent erosion. Its hand gathered and the long fibers are used for rugs and fabrics. When woven it has a softer appearance than cactus and its many small flecks give variation of color when dyed.

Banana silk is a sustainable cellulosic fiber obtained from the stems of the banana plant called “Abaca”. This strong fiber is naturally luminous with a radiant outer sheen and takes dye well to create bright vibrated color. It has been traditionally used for fabrics and rugs since the 13th century. When woven into rugs its soft texture resembles silk.

    Care and Cleaning

All rugs are hand washed in mild soap and water before shipping. Keep your rug well vacuumed without using a beater brush. Any loose fibers can be cut off but not pulled out. Spot cleaning can be done by blotting and removing residue. Use mild soap and warm water on a cloth to wipe clean. Let it dry completely to prevent any mold from forming. Do not bleach or use carpet cleaning products. Larger stains are best done by an oriental carpet cleaner. The rugs can be treated with "Fiber Seal" for enhanced stain resistance.
